This 1-year class is designed to take the student through all aspects of how to take a puppy through the first year of its life. The class will consist of lecture, self study and “hands on” learning.
The class will specifically cover:
Canine Learning Theory
Clicker Training, Luring and Shaping
Canine Behavior – Evaluation and Modification
Socialization and Generalization
Basic and Advanced Obedience Training
Canine Health and Grooming
Obedience Class structure and Management
This 12-month class will start February 7, 2017 and will continue to February 2, 2018. The student will be given one of Soldier ON Service Dogs’ specially selected puppies and will raise that puppy following Soldier ON’s carefully designed curriculum that focuses on producing a well mannered, calm dog. Throughout the year, the student will attend weekly classes, shadow Soldier ON’s professional trainers and participate in and actually gain obedience class teaching experience, and become conversant in positive reinforcement principles. The course is designed so that it can be taken by someone who is currently employed.
After having attended and becoming certified, the student will be prepared to confidently engage in all aspects of puppy raising and basic obedience on an on-going basis whether employed by an organization such as Soldier ON or start up a basic dog training business themselves.
